Secondary prevention of peanut allergy – continuous feeding or restriction of peanut protein

چکیده
Methods In an open study design 460 children aged 5 to 30 months with AE and no detectable peanut-specific serum IgE will be divided into two groups. In Group A parents are advised to feed their children peanut at least three times a week, in Group B participating children strictly avoid peanut in their diet. Children are followed for one year. At the beginning and the end of the study standardized questionnaires are performed, blood samples are collected and medical examination (including SCORAD) is assessed. Children who will develop sensitization to peanut will undergo a double blind placebo controlled food challenge.

Predictive value of specific IgE for clinical peanut allergy in children: relationship with eczema, asthma, and setting (primary or secondary care)
The usefulness of peanut specific IgE levels for diagnosing peanut allergy has not been studied in primary and secondary care where most cases of suspected peanut allergy are being evaluated. We aimed to determine the relationship between peanut-specific IgE levels and clinical peanut allergy in peanut-sensitized children and how this was influenced by eczema, asthma and clinical setting (prima...
متن کاملImplications of the "Consensus Communication on Early Peanut Introduction in the Prevention of Peanut Allergy in High-Risk Infants" for Allergists, Primary Care Physicians, Patients, and Society.
In a landmark collaborative action, 10 international medical professional organizations, 2 among them not being allergistimmunologist based (the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Pediatric Dermatology), created a “Consensus communication” suggesting that the approaches taken in the Learning Early About Peanut (LEAP) trial should be actualized for clinical care “in more diverse ...
متن کاملPeanut sensitization in a group of allergic Egyptian children
BACKGROUND There are no published data on peanut sensitization in Egypt and the problem of peanut allergy seems underestimated. We sought to screen for peanut sensitization in a group of atopic Egyptian children in relation to their phenotypic manifestations. METHODS We consecutively enrolled 100 allergic children; 2-10 years old (mean 6.5 yr). The study measurements included clinical evaluat...
متن کاملRole of Maternal Dietary Peanut Exposure in Development of Food Allergy and Oral Tolerance
BACKGROUND The impact of maternal ingestion of peanut during pregnancy and lactation on an offspring's risk for peanut allergy is under debate. OBJECTIVE To investigate the influence of maternal dietary peanut exposure and breast milk on an offspring's allergy risk. METHODS Preconceptionally peanut-exposed C3H/HeJ females were either fed or not fed peanut during pregnancy and lactation. The...
متن کاملUtility of Specific IgE to Ara h 2 in Italian Allergic and Tolerant Children Sensitized to Peanut
Emerging data suggest that measurement of serum IgE to peanut components can be clinically helpful and more accurate than IgE to whole peanut to predict peanut allergy. Not all studies have used prospective samples, multiple components and oral challenges. Currently, there are no data on this topic involving Italian children. 32 patients (23 males; median age 9 years) with reported history for ...
